Coming home from the hospital

Discharge papers assume the house is ready. The house is the same house. That gap is the job.

Situation study — not a client case KLM Ventures has not published a named, permissioned customer story yet. This is a typical Southern California household and house type we design for. Real before/afters will replace these when families agree in writing.

We are not the hospital, not the OT, not workers’ comp. If an OT asked for grab bars, a roll-in shower, or a stairlift, that is licensed construction or a mobility dealer — Ace Access and Lifeway live in that lane. We take the part the remodeler leaves on the table: lights, locks, voice, doorbell, so the first nights are not a scavenger hunt.

Before the first night home

  • Path lighting bedroom → bathroom.
  • Voice for lights if a walker occupies both hands.
  • Lock a family member can work without hiding a key.
  • Practice, in the room, in plain words. Then we leave a printed card.

If funding might apply (VA, DOR, comp, LTC), bring the how-to to the social worker — we still do not file it. Time-bound sister piece: the call from the hospital.

Not medical treatment We do not bill Medicare for this. We do not claim we reduce readmissions. We make the house operable.
