The next dark walk to the bathroom is the problem. The house can meet them halfway.
“Hey Assistant, Turn on the kitchen lights.”
Done.
No pendant. No app. No walls opened. Voice, a lit path, a lock that works — we come to the house. The visit is free. You keep the starter kit even if you never hire us. Sherman Oaks, Encino, Woodland Hills, Irvine, Laguna Woods, and nearby.
- 60 seconds, no email wall
- Free visit — you keep the kit
- Written quote before we order
- Not a medical‑alert company

Who this is for — and who should call someone else
For you if
- Someone in the house is afraid of the next dark walk to the bathroom
- You are the adult child, and moving them feels like losing the house
- They will talk to the house, not learn an app
- The home is in the San Fernando Valley, LA County, or Orange County
Not this if
- You need 911 dispatch or a wearable medical alert — buy that from them; we can still design the lights
- You need a roll‑in shower, stairlift, or opened walls — that is a licensed remodeler
- The house is in Ventura, Riverside, or San Bernardino — we will say no on the quiz
- You want us to file VA, DOR, or insurance claims — we write the spec; we do not file

What we design
A home that listens — not another app
Geek Squad leaves you with an app. A pendant company leaves you with a button. A remodeler leaves you waiting on permits. We design voice, light, and locks around how this house already works — then we teach it in plain English. One company, one number.
Sound familiar?
Little things get harder.
Your home can help.
These are the moments we hear about most. Every one of them has a simple, proven fix — and none of them require you to learn a computer.
The light switch is across the room, and my knees aren't what they were.”
The fix: lamps and lights that respond to your voice — from bed, from a chair, from anywhere.
Getting up at night scares me. It's pitch dark between the bed and the bathroom.”
The fix: soft night lights that switch on by themselves when your feet touch the floor.
I can't always hear the doorbell — or I can't get to it in time.”
The fix: a doorbell that flashes the lights, shows you who's there, and lets you answer by voice.
Keys are hard on my hands now. The deadbolt is a wrestling match.”
The fix: a door that locks and unlocks by voice — and lets family in without hiding a key.
Did I turn the stove off? I go back and check three times.”
The fix: sensors that watch the stove for you and can shut it off if it's left unattended.
My daughter worries. She calls twice a day just to check I'm up and about.”
The fix: a gentle family page that shows "all is well" — so calls are for talking, not checking.
What we design for
One home, tuned to you
We don't sell gadgets. We start with what's changed — eyes, ears, hands, knees, memory — and design the home around it. Whatever we specify, we set up, label, and teach until it feels natural.
Low vision
- The home speaks: “UPS is at the door.”
- Voice control instead of small buttons
- Big, high‑contrast screens where screens are needed
Hard of hearing
- Doorbell and smoke alarms flash the lights
- Bed shaker for nighttime alerts
- Captioned video calls with family
Limited mobility
- Lights, locks, blinds, thermostat — all by voice
- Controls placed at seated reach heights
- One‑word phone calls, no phone in hand
Memory support
- Spoken reminders for meals and morning lights
- Finders for keys, wallet, and glasses
- Routines that run themselves, morning and night
Quiet safety
- Leak detectors; stove shutoff only with a licensed partner when needed
- Smoke & CO alarms that also alert family
- Motion‑lit path from bed to bathroom
Staying close
- Photo frames with voice notes from grandkids
- “Drop‑in” video calls that answer themselves
- A shared family calendar on the kitchen screen
How it starts
A free hour that changes the house
No pitch, no clipboard interrogation. We walk the home with you. Before we leave, something already works by voice. You keep the kit either way. Written prices before we order a single device.
-
First 15 minutes
We walk the home with you
Where are the dark spots, the hard-to-reach switches, the trip risks? What's already working? We look and listen.
-
Next 25 minutes
We set up your free starter kit
A voice speaker, smart plugs, a smart bulb, and a door sensor — installed, connected, and tuned to your voice. No drilling, no wiring.
-
Next 15 minutes
You try it. We adjust.
You say the words, the home responds. We rename things until they match how you talk — “the reading lamp,” not “Device 2.”
-
Last 5 minutes
You keep a simple plan
One printed page: what your home has now, what we'd suggest next, and what it would cost. Then we book a 30‑day check‑in call and leave you to enjoy it.
When you're ready for more
Clear packages, honest prices
Dream outcome: they stay in this house, with dignity, without learning an app. Time: a 60‑second check, a free hour, plug‑in often the same week. Effort: we set it up and practice with you. Risk: kit stays, quote is written, visit obligates nothing. Monthly support is help by phone, updates, and a yearly tune‑up — not a monitoring contract.

Paying for it
You may not have to pay for this yourself
Programs exist that can cover part — sometimes all — of an accessibility project. Most people have never heard of them. On the free visit we'll tell you which ones look relevant. We can't promise a program will approve you.
Service‑connected disability? VA home‑modification grants like HISA, SAH, and SHA can fund accessibility improvements at home. How to start →
Working‑age adults with disabilities may qualify for assistive technology and home modifications through the DOR. How to start →
California's 21 Regional Centers often fund smart‑home assistive technology for people with developmental disabilities. How to start →
Some long‑term‑care policies and California workers' compensation can pay for home modifications after injury or a covered claim — not automatically. Workers' comp · Insurance
Eligibility and coverage vary by program and person — we can't promise approval. How-to guides: VA, DOR, Regional Centers, workers' comp, insurance, Medi-Cal and more. The first visit is free. We write specifications; we do not file claims.
For sons, daughters & caregivers
You can’t sit in that hallway at 2 a.m.
This is usually a son or daughter calling — often from Orange County or the Westside, parent still in the Valley. Peace of mind is not a camera in the bedroom. They decide what’s shared. Why the 2 a.m. hallway is the buying moment.
-
A quiet “all is well”One glance at the family page replaces the anxious morning phone call.
-
Gentle alerts, only when it mattersThe front door at 2 a.m., smoke, a leak — not every cup of tea.
-
Video calls that answer themselvesWith permission, your call appears on their kitchen screen — no buttons for them to find.
-
One number to callSomething not working? You call us, not a manufacturer's overseas help line.

How we work
Designed in your home, not a showroom
KLM Ventures plans the system around this house. We walk the rooms, set up plug‑in gear, and leave a written plan. Call (323) 990‑1101. Not a call center. Not a rotating sales team.
-
Designed in your home, not a showroomThe plan starts from your hallways, your light switches, your routines.
-
Written prices before we orderNothing is purchased until you have a one‑page plan in your hands.
-
Brands chosen for the long haulWe only specify equipment with a track record — nothing that vanishes when a startup folds.
Honest answers
Questions people ask
I'm not good with technology. Is this really for me?
Especially for you. Nothing we set up requires a smartphone, an app, or a password from you. If you can say “turn on the lamp,” you can run the whole thing. We set everything up, label it in plain words, and practice with you until it feels normal. And if you forget — the light switches all still work exactly like they always did.
Is this one of those medical‑alert pendant services?
No. We're a smart‑home design company, not an emergency dispatch service. We make the home itself easier and safer to live in. If you also want 24/7 professional monitoring, we can add a UL‑listed monitoring partner as an option — but it's your choice, never a requirement.
Will you tear up my walls or rewire anything?
No. We start plug‑in first: smart plugs, bulbs, and battery‑powered sensors that set up in minutes without touching your wiring. If a project ever genuinely needs electrical work, a licensed electrician partner does that portion — we don't, and we'll tell you before anything is scheduled.
Do you have a contractor license?
We don't need one for the work we do. KLM Ventures is a design company: we plan the system, specify the equipment, set up plug‑in devices, and train you. If a project needs electrical or other license‑required work, a licensed partner performs that portion under their license. We'll say so in writing before anything is scheduled.
Are cameras and microphones listening to everything?
Cameras go only where you want them — typically the front door, never bedrooms or bathrooms. The voice speaker listens for its wake word, and we'll show you the mute button and privacy settings on day one. What your family sees is up to you, and we put that in writing.
I rent my home. Can I still do this?
Usually, yes. The starter kit and most of our packages are plug‑in and removable — nothing a landlord needs to approve. For items like video doorbells or smart locks in a rental, we'll help you check with your landlord first and choose renter‑friendly versions.
What happens if something stops working?
You call us and a person at KLM answers. Monthly support plans include help by phone, fixes, updates, and a yearly in‑home tune‑up. No support plan? We still answer — service visits are simply billed as we go.
What does the free visit obligate me to?
Nothing. You keep the Welcome Kit either way, and we leave you a one‑page plan with honest prices. If the answer is “not now,” that's a fine answer — we'll check in once at 30 days and then leave the next move to you.
Start with a free morning visit
Tell us a little about the home and who lives there. The fastest way to reach us is to call. If you leave a number, we'll use it only to call you back about this visit.
